Our last meeting was so much fun! Tie Dye Mania for our Susan G. Komen walk at the boardwalk on the 17th!! Sorry if you missed it but don't let October 28th go by without coming to another MOPS meeting! This time we'll be hearing from a breast cancer survivor as well as a certified nurse midwife talk to us about women's health. Are you ready to live through the challenges and hear the strength? Are you ready to be more proactive and help others to be concerned for their own sake? Come join the food, fellowship, and great information and see your new and old friends! Can't wait!

THE NEXT SURVIVOR SERIES Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car and 3 kids each for six weeks. Each kid will play two sports and either take music or dance classes. There is no fast food. Each man must take care of his 3 kids; keep his assigned house clean, correct all homework, and complete science projects, cook, do laundry, and pay a list of 'pretend' bills with not enough money. In addition, each man will have to budget in money for groceries each week.. Each man must remember the birthdays of all their friends and relatives, and send cards out on time--no emailing.
Each man must also take each child to a doctor's appointment, a dentist appointment, and a haircut appointment. He must make one unscheduled and inconvenient visit per child to the Urgent Care. He must also make cookies or cupcakes for a social function. Each man will be responsible for decorating his own assigned house, planting flowers outside, and keeping it presentable at all times. The men will only have access to television when the kids are asleep and all chores are done. The men must shave their legs, wear makeup daily, adorn himself with jewelry, wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes, keep fingernails polished and eyebrows groomed. During one of the six weeks, the men will have to endure severe abdominal cramps, back aches, and have extreme, unexplained mood swings but never once complain or slow down from other duties. They must attend weekly school meetings, church, and find time at least once to spend the afternoon at the park or a similar setting. They will need to read a book to the kids each night and in the morning, feed them, dress them, brush their teeth, and comb their hair by 7:00 a.m. A test will be given at the end of the six weeks, and each father will be required to know all of the following information: each child's birthday, height, weight,shoe size, clothes size, and doctor's name. Also the child's weight at birth, length, time of birth, and length of labor, each child's favorite color, middle name, favorite snack, favorite song, favorite drink, favorite toy, biggest fear, and what they want to be when they grow up. The kids vote them off the island based on performance. The last man wins only IF...he still has enough energy to be intimate with his spouse at a moment's notice. If the last man does win, he can play the game over and over and over again for the next 18-25 years eventually earning the right to be called Mother!

Declare a Time-Out: If you need to save money to catch up on bills or just get a little ahead, declare a "no spending" month in which you only pay bills and buy necessities such as food, diapers and gas. Clean Up: The markup on household cleaning products is huge, so consider making your own household cleaners. An excellent how-to book on the subject of nontoxic homemade cleaners is Clean and Green by Annie Berthold-Bond.

Get Thrifty: Remember infants and young children have no label preference (unless you instill it). You can save a lot during these years by using hand-me-downs or buying at secondhand stores and garage sales.

Save at the Grocery Store:
Save money when you buy bread, rolls and snack cakes from a bread or bakery outlet.
Purchase nonfood items at a discount store instead of the grocery store.
The best deals on grocery store aisles are on the top and bottom shelves. Manufacturers pay a premium to display their goods at eye level and pass the costs on to you.

Don't buy food you're not going to use from a warehouse club. Buying more than you need is wasteful regardless of how low the price. Consider dividing bulk goods and their costs among friends and neighbors.

Keep nonperishable snacks and drinks in the car to cut down on visits to fast food drive-throughs and convenience stores.

Save Seasonally: There are times of the year when certain items are less expensive. Shop off-season and save yourself a bundle.

January: Christmas decorations, cards and wrapping; winter clothing and bedding.
February: housewares and small appliances; furniture; jewelry and chocolates.
March: outerwear; gardening supplies; luggage.

One of our own MOPS mommies, Heather Morge, welcomes home hubby Chris after his six month tour.

Petty Officer 1st Class Chris Morge, assigned to the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Elrod holds his daughter for the first time during a homecoming celebration at Naval Station Norfolk Dec. 3. Elrod and her crew returned to Norfolk after successfully completing a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and eastern Atlantic Ocean.

A mother's role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after.

What a super meeting we had Wednesday morning. The ladies had good discussions and heartfelt prayer together. We also had lots of laughs and made the coolest earrings as our craft (I have wore mine for two days now). Thanks Marie for sharing such a fun activity. Our first MOPS meeting of the season was super. Lots of new faces (which we love to see) and lots of our past mommies making their way back to our MOPS family. I hope all questions were answered, all needs prayed for, all hugs given and all butts wiped (babies that is). Our next meeting for our AM group is September 24th at 9:00am. Be there early to register for the on time drawing. I heard it is a years free laundry service. Ha ha...just kidding! Although, wouldn't that be amazing? A girl can dream. We are having a fall yard sale on October 18th, from 7am to noon.
Tables can be rented for $10 to sell your items and donations for the MOPS table are already being accepted. The proceeds from all items sold on the MOPS table will be divided equally between AM and PM groups. Please bring donations to any MOPS meeting or contact Marylou Robins for pick-up/delivery. We are also asking each woman to donate some baked goods or beverages for our refreshments table. We are looking so forward to getting together with all you wonderful mommies this year. The steering committees have met many times over the summer to plan a fun filled season for you and your children. We have also kept your families in our prayers and we are all excited to see how God will bless us and bring even more moms into our fold.
We have lots of changes this year from new discussion group leaders to adding a night meeting for those of us who have our plates full in the daytime.
A fun new addition is the MOPS website. You can use it to check upcoming MOPS events, post prayer requests and praise reports. We will also set up links on the sidebar if any of you ladies have a home business website that could use a little free publicity.
